Response of viscoelastic fluids in extensional flow generated by a pulsating sphere. (English) Zbl 0532.76008
Periodic extensional flow generated by a pulsating sphere in an infinite viscoelastic fluid has been investigated. The pressure fluctuations resulting from an imposed sinusoidal pulsation of the sphere are analysed. The kinematics of the flow is completely specified in terms of the mean radius of the sphere, the dimensionless amplitude of the pulsation and the frequency of pulsation. The paper includes the results for the corotational Jeffrey fluid and the Oldroyd fluid model B. It is possible to extend the general procedure to other constitutive equations. References to the existing literature do not include the work done in this area by A. Shima and his collaborators.
