Notebooks of Srinivasa Ramanujan. Vols. 1, 2. (English) Zbl 0138.24201
Bombay: Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. 352 p., 393 p. (1957).
The two large volumes comprise a facsimile edition of Ramanujan’s famous notebooks. They will be of great interest both to the student and to the specialist.
However the reviewer was disappointed to find that there was neither an introduction nor even a table of contents. Fortunately one can refer to G. N. Watson’s lecture: Ramanujan’s note books [J. Lond. Math. Soc. 6, 137–153 (1931; Zbl 0003.14901)] for a detailed analysis of the note books.
For the most part the work is legible-but is far from attractive in appearance.
