Foreword: String geometries, dualities and topological matter.

*(English)*Zbl 1427.00077From the text: Over the last three decades, string theory has had a profound impact in pure mathematics, including generalized geometry, vertex algebras, topological T-duality and related topics.

Part of this Journal of Geometry and Physics Virtual Special Issue is based on the proceedings of the Institute for Geometry and its Applications/AMSI funded workshop entitled, Topological Matter, Strings, K-theory and related areas, held at the University of Adelaide, 26–30 September 2016.

The other part of this JGP VSI is based on the proceedings of the IMPA (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) conference entitled, String Geometries and Dualities (Australia-Brazil meeting), December 12–16, 2016 on the String theory and T-dualities aspects.
