Tang, Niansheng Sample size determination for testing nonzero difference of two proportions in matched-pair design. (English) Zbl 1065.62190 J. Yunnan Univ., Nat. Sci. 25, No. 3, 202-206 (2003). Summary: Two approximate sample size formulae are proposed for testing the null hypothesis of nonzero rate difference of two proportions in matched-pair designs based on T. Tango’s score test statistic [Stat. Medicine 17, 891–908 (1998)]. The formulae can be used to produce sample size estimates that guarantee a prespecific power of a hypothesis test at a certain significance level and controls the width of a confidence interval with a certain confidence level. Our empirical studies confirm that the proposed sample size formulae perform satisfactorily. A real example is used to illustrate our methods.
