A note on alternative estimators for multi-character surveys. (English) Zbl 1188.62019

Summary: The problems of estimating the population total in multi-character surveys in varying probability sampling schemes when the measure of size is not well-related to the study variables, have been considered by J. N. K. Rao [Sankhyā;, Ser. A 28, 47–60 (1966; Zbl 0146.39803)], A. Scott and T. M. F. Smith [Sankhyā;, Ser. A 31, 497–498 (1969; Zbl 0195.20103)] and R Arnab [Metrika 54, No. 2, 159–177 (2001; Zbl 1110.62306)]. In the present note, their results are extended for a wider class of superpopulation models and sampling designs.
