For solving the steady free surface flows of ideal potential heavy fluids a numerical method based on an optimization approach is considered. The problem is written down in an optimization form E. H. van Brummelen and A. Segal [Int. J. Numer. Methods Fluids 41, No. 1, 3–27 (2003; Zbl 1025.76039)], T. Ioanna and T. Petrila [ROMAI J. 2, No. 1, 87–90 (2006)]. The isoparametric finite element method with rectangular elements is used for solving the obtained boundary value problems. The numerical results are presented.
