Franosch, T.; Nelson, David R. Population dynamics near an oasis with time-dependent convection. (English) Zbl 0995.92038 J. Stat. Phys. 99, No. 3-4, 1021-1030 (2000). Summary: We investigate the time evolution of a bacterial population near a favorable spot with time-dependent convection. Diffusion, growth, and saturation effects lead to a localized colony which spreads out in the surroundings. Convection by a time-dependent but spatially uniform random velocity introduces fluctuations. Equations of motion for ensemble averages are derived and compared to numerical simulations.
