Statistics: problems and solutions. 2nd ed. (English) Zbl 0962.62001

Singapore: World Scientific (ISBN 981-02-4293-X/hbk; 981-02-4321-0/pbk; 978-981-238-663-2/ebook). xi, 227 p. (2000).
The book still retains its classical style, although the availability of computer packages to undertake tedious calculations has become much greater and the packages have become more sophisticated and easy to use. The approach of the authors is to improve a student’s understanding of statistics, and to help students appreciate which techniques might be appropriate for any problem. The authors have been successful in achieving this.
The book is divided into five chapters under the headings: Probability, Probability Distributions, Data Summarization and Goodness-of-Fit, Inference and Analysis of Structured Data. The problems have been meticulously chosen and their solutions are explained in a logical manner (as indicated in the notes accompanying each solution). The authors must be complemented for doing a nice job.
