An adaptive Gamma enhancement algorithm for non-uniform illumination images. (Chinese. English summary) Zbl 1374.94200

Summary: Under non-limiting conditions, the phenomena of non-uniform illumination existed in images or videos captured by mobile cameras and camcorders. As for the existing algorithms to this problem, the realtime performance was poor and the processing results were unsatisfactory. To effectively process non-uniform illumination images, an adaptive Gamma enhancement algorithm based on Retinex theory was proposed. By this algorithm, an adaptive Gamma correction was applied on the illumination components and the reflectance component was used to restore the details and colors. As demonstrated in experiments, the proposed method outperforms existing algorithms in terms of subjective assessment, objective assessment and processing speed.
