First the paper establishes an interpolation formula for a symmetric function in \(k\) variables which reduces to the classical Lagrange interpolation formula if \(k=1\). Second the authors provide a simple derivation of an identity of R. A. Gustafson and S. C. Milne [Adv. Math. 48, 177-188 (1983; Zbl 0516.33015)] on Schur symmetric functions.
