This three-volume set on group theory is the third printing of part of a series of fundamental mathematics, the first of which appeared in 1976 and 1977. The series consists of 79 volumes and covers a very wide range of mathematics. This three-volume set bears group theory part of the series. The first and the second volumes contain basic concepts and materials in group theory. Several important materials in finite group theory such as the generalized Fitting subgroups, signalizer functors, transfer theorems and Glauberman’s ZJ-theorem are also included. The third volume is devoted to the ordinary representation theory of finite groups with special emphasis on applications of characters. This set of volumes is a good textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in finite group theory and related areas.
