Bois, Pierre-Antoine; Godts, Stéphane; Ouahsine, Abdellatif Amortissement visqueux des ondes de Rossby dans les courants océaniques par couches de fond et d’interface. (Viscous damping of Rossby waves in oceanic currents by sea-floor and interfacial layers). (French) Zbl 0709.76028 C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. II 312, No. 5, 435-439 (1991). Summary: Oceanic Rossby waves are studied in this paper by taking into account the dissipation due to the double Ekman layer between the ocean and the atmosphere and to the Ekman layer at the sea floor. When the dissipation parameter, denoted by \(E_{\perp}\), is small, it is possible to construct a perturbation solution for particular density stratifications in the ocean. This solution extends to the present case the classical notion of Rossby wave. It is verified that this wave is slowly damped.
