Comparison between two numerical methods for a magnetostatic problem. (English) Zbl 0969.78003

The boundary value problem for a static magnetic field is analyzed analytically and numerically by means of two approaches. One, called a direct method, treats all three magnetic field components simultaneously while the other, called an uncoupled method, treats these components successively. In numerical procedures, the direct method in comparison with the uncoupled turns out to be faster by a factor 1.5 on average while it takes more memory, by a factor of 6 in 3D computations.
