On calculating transmission reliability in wireless sensor networks. (Chinese. English summary) Zbl 1174.68003

Summary: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are data based systems which consist of sink and sensor nodes. Reliable event detection at the sink is based on one or several source nodes. Hence, the transmission reliability of data affects the event detection and estimation directly. In WSN, on one hand, the network topology is dynamically various, so the transmission reliability of data is related to the network topology; on the other hand, sensor nodes are energy limited, so the transmission reliability is also closely related to the energy of sensor nodes. Aiming at the characteristics of WSN, the transmission reliability conception and a measure to evaluate the transmission reliability of WSN are proposed. By analyzing the energy consumption of sensors in transmitting with and without data aggregation respectively, the probability function of a node that works normally with the time varying is achieved, and a method for calculating transmission reliability is WSN by analyzing the energy consumption of sensor nodes is introduced.
