Vladimir Steklov: a mathematician at the turn of the era. (English. Russian original) Zbl 1338.01034

Proc. Steklov Inst. Math. 289, 10-22 (2015); translation from Tr. Mat. Inst. Steklova 289, 17-30 (2015).
The paper is devoted to the life and contribution of Vladimir Andreevich Steklov (28 December 1863, Old Style, or 9 January 1864, New Style – 30 May 1926). His role in the development of Russian mathematics and in the formation of the Russian mathematical community and institutions are considered. The paper focuses also on Steklov’s work in the Soviet period – at that time he guided and supported the Academy of Sciences establishing its reputation in the new Soviet state.
