Anal. 13, No. 4, 471-482 (2008). A new heuristic numerical algorithm for minimizing the total weight of electrical cables is presented. The goal is to minimize the total mass of metal in all wires under the constraint that the temperatures of the wires remain bounded by some given maximal value. Two multilevel parallel versions of the optimization algorithm are constructed. The first algorithm is based on master-slave technique and the second algorithm uses the data-parallel strategy.
