Aitkin, Murray Simpson’s paradox and the Bayes factor. (English) Zbl 0909.62001 J. R. Stat. Soc., Ser. B, Stat. Methodol. 60, No. 1, 269-270 (1998). Summary: A counter-example presented by Lindley to Aitkin’s posterior Bayes factor [M. Aitkin, J. R. Stat. Soc., Ser. B 53, No. 1, 111-142 (1991)] is examined. The paradoxical feature of the counter-example is found to be a simple case of Simpson’s paradox [E. H. Simpson, ibid. 13, 238-241 (1951; Zbl 0045.08802)].
