Caffarelli, Giorgio Vergara; Virga, Epifanio G. A uniqueness theorem in linear viscoelasticity. (Italian. English summary) Zbl 0667.73027 Atti Accad. Naz. Lincei, VIII. Ser., Rend., Cl. Sci. Fis. Mat. Nat. 81, No. 4, 379-387 (1987). We prove that the dynamic problem of linear viscoelasticity has a unique weak solution. We assume neither that the quasi-static approximation holds, nor that the past history of the displacement is known. We require the instantaneous elastic response to be greater than a value depending on the memory of the material and the asymptotic behaviour in the past of the admissible solutions.
